Arsenal “Likely” to Sell Three Academy Graduates as the Club Set for Squad Shake-up in the Summer

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal set for for a significant overhaul in the upcoming summer, potentially seeing the departure of three academy graduates.

Reports suggest that Arsenal might part ways with up to three of their academy products this summer. Emile Smith Rowe is one of the names circulating in transfer speculations, hinting at a possible exit from the Emirates Stadium.

This speculation arises amid anticipation of another active transfer window, as Mikel Arteta aims to bolster his squad further.

In the previous summer transfer window of 2023, Arsenal ranked among the highest spenders in Europe, investing a staggering £208 million in new signings. Notably, this sum included the eye-catching £105 million acquisition of Declan Rice from West Ham United, marking a significant milestone for the London-based club.

With the 2024 summer transfer window looming just months away, Arsenal are gearing up for many arrivals and outgoings. FootballTransfers reports that Smith Rowe, along with two other homegrown talents, are rumoured to be up for potential departure this summer.

Joining Smith Rowe on the speculated chopping block are Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah, all products of Arsenal’s esteemed academy. Despite their roots with the club, their playing time has been limited this season, with Smith Rowe starting just two matches, Nelson yet to start, and Nketiah with only 10 starts in the Premier League.

Although Arsenal are purportedly in a favourable financial position, they are reportedly looking to bolster their transfer funds by offloading some of their surplus squad members.

Among them, Nketiah seems to be attracting the most interest, with Crystal Palace and Brentford eyeing him as a potential replacement for Ivan Toney.

As for incomings, reports suggest that Arsenal have been monitoring the performance of RB Leipzig prodigy Benjamin Sesko, who has emerged as one of the standout performers in the German football scene this campaign.

With 11 goals to his name across various competitions for the Bundesliga side, the 20-year-old is reportedly the Gunners’ top target for the striker position, edging out contenders like Toney and Victor Osimhen.

Sesko’s talents have not gone unnoticed by major European clubs in the past, including Manchester United, who had reportedly contemplated a potential acquisition of the Slovenian talent last season.

However, the Red Devils ultimately opted for the £72 million acquisition of Rasmus Hojlund. While a move to the Premier League did not materialize for Sesko at that time, there is speculation that a transfer could be on the cards this time, potentially leading him to join Arteta’s squad at Arsenal for the upcoming season.
