Jack Wilshere Tips Young Midfielder’s Rapid Promotion to Arsenal first Team Following Impressive Performances

Max Dowman, a promising young talent from Arsenal, debuted for the U18 squad at just 13 years old. Jack Wilshere, his coach, believes his recent standout performances could expedite his journey to the first team.

Dowman showcased his skills in September with a 22-minute appearance for the Gunners’ U18 team during a commanding 4-0 victory.

After a prolonged absence from the squad, Wilshere reintroduced Dowman into the fold over the past fortnight, and the young talent has made a significant impact.

In just two matches, the 14-year-old delivered four crucial contributions, including a remarkable hat-trick of assists against Fulham.

The Arsenal U18’s coach is now highly optimistic about Dowman’s potential, foreseeing a swift progression to the first team under Mikel Arteta’s guidance, where his development will continue to flourish.

Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri became the youngest player ever to play in a Premier League match, stepping onto the field against Brentford in September 2022 at just 15 years and 181 days old.

While Dowman and the Gunners aren’t actively aiming to surpass this record, the exceptional talent of the youngster means it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Wilshere even commented on the 14-year-old’s performance, particularly his hat-trick of assists against Fulham.

“There’s always a concern when fielding such a young player in these matches, but if you’re good enough you’re old enough,” Wilshere told club media.

“He can be more consistent but he’s only 14 and hasn’t even started his GCSEs yet.

“We need to find a balance of letting him play and enjoy the game because of his age but also trying to get as much work into him as we can.

“Hopefully, we can fast-track him and when he goes over to the first team he’ll be more ready.”

Max Dowman may not be a household name yet, but judging by his performances and Jack Wilshere’s praise, it’s only a matter of time before the football world recognises the talent of this young midfielder.
