Arsenal ‘Working Hard’ to Reinforce Key Area With £103m Star Identified as Serious Target

According to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, Arsenal are eyeing a summer move for SL Benfica’s rising star Joao Neves.

Having emerged from Benfica’s youth system, the 19-year-old has become a crucial figure in Roger Schmidt’s lineup this season and has even earned a spot in Portugal’s national team.

Reported on TBR Football, Bailey suggests that Arsenal are working hard to bolster their midfield options and has begun compiling a list of targets for the upcoming transfer window.

While initially interested in Douglas Luiz and Bruno Guimaraes, Arsenal’s pursuit of Guimaraes has hit a roadblock due to his hefty £100m release clause, with Luiz likely staying at Aston Villa following their Champions League qualification.

In light of this, Arsenal have turned their attention to Martin Zubimendi, with manager Mikel Arteta engaging in discussions to lure the player to the Emirates Stadium.

Neves to Arsenal

The journalist reveals that Arsenal have identified Neves as a viable alternative option should they fail to secure Zubimendi’s signature.

They’ve closely monitored the Portuguese player’s development and intensified scouting efforts over recent weeks ahead of a potential summer move.

Reports suggest Manchester United, impressed by Neves’ performances, have also shown interest in signing him.

This sets up a competitive situation between the North London club and the Red Devils for any potential deal.

Neves is believed to have a £103m release clause in his contract, making it unlikely for Arsenal to pursue a deal if Benfica demands such a high fee.

Recognised for his talent and potential as a top-class midfielder, acquiring Neves would be a significant coup for Arsenal.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal will make a definitive approach to sign the Portuguese international in the upcoming transfer window.
