Mikel Arteta Names Key Game Which Cost Arsenal the Premier League Title
Mikel Arteta has identified Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa last month as the turning point when they fell out of contention for the Premier League title.
The Gunners battled fiercely until the final day of the campaign, striving to prevent City from claiming their fourth consecutive title.
Arsenal secured a victory over Everton on the last matchday, but the three points weren’t enough to clinch the silverware, as City’s win over West Ham left them two points ahead.
Despite falling short of the title, Gunners boss Arteta expressed pride in his team, stating that they “pushed every limit.” He also reflected on the season, pointing out the moment when the title slipped out of their grasp.
“For sure Villa at home,” he named as the turning point. “In the first half it should have been 4-0. For what happened on Tuesday [Man City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham], maybe it could have been as well. These are the margins.

“The staff and players have pushed every limit and every margin that we could to win the Premier League. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough.
“Congrats to City. It’s unbelievable what they’ve done since December. Every performance has been at the highest we’ve ever seen and still it wasn’t enough.”
Arteta also made sure to address fans before leaving the pitch.
“I think now it’s time to have a break, think, reflect,” he told fans in attendance. “Please keep pushing and inspiring this team. Don’t be satisfied because we want much more than that. Thank you so much.
“We’re gonna come back even stronger, even more hungry. We’re gonna push to do it and win everything.”
