Report: Arsenal Offered Former Premier League Player in Transfer Swap for Jakub Kiwior
Jakub Kiwior might be included as part of a trade deal involving a Liverpool flop this summer.
Juventus are reportedly planning to offer Arsenal a deal involving Arthur Melo, who struggled at Liverpool, plus cash in exchange for Jakub Kiwior.
Since joining Arsenal in January 2023, Kiwior has played a limited role, featuring in 30 matches across all competitions last season, but making only 11 starts in the Premier League.
However, Kiwior might find a way out of north London, as Juventus have shown interest in the defender.
The Serie A club are open to signing him this summer but have concerns about his price tag.
According to The Daily Mirror, Arsenal are expected to demand around £20 million for the deal, a sum that Juventus cannot afford.
To reduce Arsenal’s asking price, Juventus are reportedly planning to include Melo, who is not needed at the club, as part of the deal.
Premier League fans might recognise Melo, as the Brazilian midfielder was on loan at Liverpool for a season.
Melo joined Liverpool on loan at the start of the 2022/23 season, but his time there was disappointing, with only one senior appearance.
Melo departed from Liverpool after spending more time with the under-21 team than with the first team, as the club chose not to offer him a permanent contract.
Speaking at the end of his loan deal, then Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: “Circumstances meant Arthur was not able to play as much as he would have liked but his professionalism and ability were clear to all who worked with him.”
Despite his previous challenges in England, a return to the Premier League remains a possibility, with Mikel Arteta reportedly considering the idea.
At just 27, Melo still has time to reclaim his earlier form with a bit of luck.
Though not likely to be signed as a starter, Melo could serve as a rotational player, helping to reduce the burden on Arsenal’s key midfielders.
Both Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard were among the top three in minutes played for Arsenal last season, highlighting the team’s heavy reliance on this midfield duo.
