“Could be the answer”: Arsenal Told to Sign “Aggressive” Striker Who Could Dominate Defences in the Air
Arsenal have been urged to pursue a Premier League attacker who could provide Mikel Arteta with a fresh strategic option.
Securing a forward has become a top priority for the Gunners this transfer window. They have been linked with PSG’s Xavi Simons, and young Turkish talent Semih Kilicsoy is also reportedly on their radar.
With no new signings yet this summer, the pressure is mounting on Arsenal as time ticks away. Their pre-season tour in the United States begins later tonight with a match against AFC Bournemouth.
Arteta have been encouraged to make at least one acquisition during this window.
Arsenal Urged to Sign Ivan Toney This Summer
On ESPN FC, pundit Stewart Robinson suggested that Ivan Toney might be a strong candidate for Arsenal during this summer transfer window, as the forward has already been associated with a potential move to the Gunners.
He mentioned that Arsenal could acquire the “world-class” striker for just £40 million. Robinson commented on the possibility of Arsenal pursuing Toney this summer:
“You looked at that team there and remember, they had Jesus as the centre-forward who didn’t quite work for them, he started off brilliantly. Havertz does a good job there but is he an out-and-out centre-forward?
“When you need crosses into the box, he’s quite good in the air, but someone like Ivan Toney could be the answer. He’s not going to play every week maybe.
“Against some of the big teams, they might go with Havertz, but I think they need another option at centre-forward, and Toney would be that sort of option.
“Somebody that can hold up the play, he can win balls in the air, he’d be aggressive with balls coming into the box, particularly when they’re trailing in games. So that’s another area I think he would like to make them better.”
Toney has proven himself as a top striker at Brentford and deserves a move to one of the Premier League’s elite teams this summer.
However, for Arsenal, it seems they might seek a younger striker who better fits Arteta’s playing style, suggesting they could aim for someone other than Toney.
While Toney merits a transfer to a major Premier League club, Arsenal would be prudent to delay signing the Brentford forward, despite the limited options available.
