“Such a Skilful Player”: Chris Sutton Wowed by “Wonderful” Arsenal Attacker in Win Over Wolves Today

Arsenal secured their first victory of the Premier League season with a 2-0 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The match, played on the opening day of the season, saw the Gunners deliver a solid performance at the Emirates Stadium.

In the 3pm kick-off on Saturday, Arsenal faced off against a determined Wolves side under the management of Gary O’Neil. The home team emerged victorious with a routine win, establishing their dominance early on.

The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Kai Havertz connected with Bukayo Saka’s precise left-footed cross, heading the ball into the back of the net to give Arsenal the lead.

As the match progressed, Wolverhampton Wanderers began to improve their play, putting Arsenal under pressure. The Gunners, however, managed to navigate these challenging moments and maintain their advantage.

Mikel Arteta’s side eventually extended their lead in the second half. Havertz played a crucial role again, setting up Saka in the penalty area. Saka then cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot with his left foot, beating Jose Sa at his near post in the 74th minute to secure the win.

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton was impressed with Saka’s performance but also had some criticism for Wolves’ left-back, Rayan Ait-Nouri.

“It’s a wonderful finish and we know Saka is such a skilful player,” Sutton said on Final Score, via the BBC Sport website.

“I blame Ait-Nouri though. You can’t let him inside where he is at his strongest.”

Wolves had a late appeal for a penalty when Hwang Hee-chan went down in the box after minimal contact from Jurrien Timber, but the referee didn’t award it.

Ultimately, Arsenal managed to close out the match with relative ease, securing an ideal start to their 2024/25 season.

“No Doubt About the Result”

Fellow BBC Sport pundit Paul Robinson had his say about the Gunners’ win at full-time.

“Arsenal have played well in patches,” he said on Radio 5 Live, via the BBC Sport website.

“There was one part in the game where Wolves were working back into it and creating some chances.

“But Arsenal re-asserted their dominance and took control once more with that second goal.

“Since then there has been absolutely no doubt about the result.”

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal recorded six shots on target, an expected goals (xG) of 1.26, 50 touches inside the opposition’s box, and maintained 53.1 percent of possession.

Overall, it was an ideal beginning to the Gunners’ Premier League season, securing two goals and a clean sheet.

Arsenal’s next match is an away game against Aston Villa on Saturday, August 24th, with kickoff scheduled for 5:30pm.
