Mikel Arteta Hints at a Fresh Position Change for Arsenal Player as He Returns to First-team Action

Mikel Arteta has hinted that Jurrien Timber might take on a different role as he works his way back into the first-team squad.

Timber, who missed a large portion of last season due to a severe injury, is being reintroduced gradually by Arsenal.

With one of the strongest defensive setups in England, Arsenal faces intense competition for spots in their backline.

Although this competition might limit Timber’s opportunities for playing time, his skill makes him an asset that Arsenal is eager to utilize.

Arteta has shown a strong interest in getting Timber on the field as much as possible, even suggesting that the Dutch player could be positioned in midfield.

Arsenal valued Timber’s adaptability when signing him, and Arteta is pleased to have a player capable of excelling in various roles beyond defense.

He said, as quoted by Goal:

“Yeah, he is (in contention to play in midfield). He can play in various positions. His versatility is one of his biggest strengths.

“We missed him for 11 months. It’s great to have him back. He played some quality minutes the other day. Like Alex [Zinchenko] did too.

“I think Alex [Zinchenko] was really good in the first 60 minutes against Wolves. Having that capacity to find what the squad needs in that minute is really valued.”
