“I Am Hearing”: Peter Drury Shares VAR’s Verdict on 1st Minute Clash Between Rodri and Kai Havertz
Sunday’s Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal had an unusual start.
Within just four seconds of the game kicking off, Rodri was seen writhing in pain following a collision with Kai Havertz.
Despite the incident, Arsenal’s No. 29, Havertz, faced no disciplinary action, while Manchester City’s No. 16, Rodri, was able to carry on playing. But what was VAR’s take on the situation? Let’s explore further.
Peter Drury Shares What VAR Said About Rodri and Kai Havertz Clash
Peter Drury, who provided commentary for Sky Sports during the match alongside Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, shared what the VAR officials told him about the incident between the German and the Spaniard.
He said: “I am hearing that it was simply deemed a body-to-body collision.”
In reality, that was all there was to it, and it seems Rodri exaggerated the incident.
If Havertz had been shown a red card for this, it would have seriously made us lose our passion for the game.
Rodri eventually had to leave the field after another encounter, this time with Thomas Partey, an Arsenal player who pushed the Spanish international to the ground during a scramble in the box while defending a Manchester City corner.
VAR also communicated with Drury about this moment. The 56-year-old commentator shared that officials gave him the same explanation, considering it just a minor clash and nothing more.
