“Worth Every Penny” – Martin Keown Awestruck by Arsenal Star After Late Win Over Leicester
Arsenal extended their unbeaten streak in the Premier League with a 4-2 victory over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners appeared to be in control of the match, leading 2-0 at one point. However, Leicester City mounted a spirited comeback to level the score at 2-2, raising the possibility of them securing an unexpected draw.
Despite Leicester’s efforts, two late goals in stoppage time ensured Arsenal claimed all three points. Leandro Trossard seemed to have netted the third goal, though it was recorded as an own goal. Kai Havertz then added a fourth in the ninth minute of stoppage time, dashing Leicester’s hopes of a draw.
Gabriel Martinelli initially gave Arsenal the lead, with Trossard adding the second goal soon after. Martin Keown, a former Arsenal player, praised Trossard’s performance, stating he was “worth every penny.”
Arsenal acquired Trossard from Brighton for £27 million in 2023, and he has since proven to be a valuable asset to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Keown said to BBC Sports: “What a buy Leandro Trossard was! Worth every penny. A perfect day if it finishes like this.
“Arsenal score from a set-piece – who’d believe it? Arsenal just kept believing. It is a lucky goal and ‘lucky Arsenal’ is a nice tag to have.”
An Important Win for the Gunners
Arsenal’s recent result places them level on points with Manchester City, both teams now sitting at 14 points each at the top of the table.
Chelsea occupie third place with 13 points. However, Liverpool could claim the leading position if they secure a victory against Wolves today.
Pat Nevin, speaking on BBC Radio, expressed that Arsenal deserved the win by a significant margin. He highlighted their resilience and determination, noting that they never lost their fighting spirit.
Under the leadership of Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have evolved into a formidable team. Having finished as runners-up in the league for the past two seasons, they are now considered strong contenders for this season’s title, and it’s easy to understand why.
Throughout the game, Arsenal created numerous opportunities and consistently applied pressure, particularly with their corners aimed at the back post.
Eventually, their persistence paid off with a goal. While the win might not have been the most aesthetically pleasing, the Gunners will certainly be satisfied with taking all three points.
