95 Touches, 100% Ground Duels & 100% Dribbles Won: £45m Star Was Arsenal’s Best Player After Saka vs Southampton

Arsenal secured a 3-1 comeback victory over Southampton in their Premier League encounter on Saturday.

The Gunners controlled much of the first half at the Emirates Stadium, but despite their dominance, they struggled to convert chances, managing just one shot on target.

In a surprising turn of events, Southampton took the lead in the 55th minute, leaving the home crowd stunned. However, Arsenal quickly responded with an equalizer, courtesy of a powerful strike from Kai Havertz.

Gabriel Martinelli put Arsenal in front with a stunning side-footed volley, making it 2-1. Bukayo Saka sealed the win with a third goal just before stoppage time.

Saka was undoubtedly the standout performer, not only scoring the third goal but also playing a crucial role in creating the first two.

He deservedly earned the man of the match award. While several players shone in the game, Thomas Partey’s performance at right-back particularly stood out.

Thomas Partey Performance in Numbers vs Southampton

The Ghanaian took on the makeshift role in the absence of Ben White and Jurrien Timber, with Takehiro Tomiyasu only making a late substitute appearance.

Partey had a challenging performance when playing from the same position against Fulham last season, but this time he made a significant impact. He excelled by winning 100% of his ground duels and all of his tackles.

The £45 million signing recorded 95 touches and achieved 92% pass accuracy. While Partey may not have the overlapping abilities of Timber or White, he carried out his responsibilities effectively.

The 31-year-old’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire at the end of this season, and as of now, there have been no discussions regarding a potential extension.

Partey’s performances in the coming months are likely to be evaluated before the club decides on his future. For now, he must remain consistent and, crucially, avoid injuries.
