“At the Moment’: Ally McCoist Shares If He Thinks Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is Actually “World-class” Right Now
Bukayo Saka has begun the new season for Arsenal in remarkable form, having already netted three goals and provided seven assists across all competitions.
The 23-year-old winger has elevated his game once more under the guidance of Mikel Arteta. With Martin Odegaard sidelined due to an ankle injury, Saka has emerged as Arsenal’s primary creative force on the field.
During a UEFA Champions League match against PSG, Saka, donning the captain’s armband, added to his tally. For many, his performance places him in the conversation for being a world-class player, especially when considering the limited number of wide attackers who are seen as superior to Arsenal’s No. 7.
Ally McCoist has now shared his thoughts on whether he believes Saka has reached the world-class status in the world of football.
McCoist Not Sure Saka is at a World-class Level Just Yet
In an interview on TalkSport, the pundit stated that Saka has not yet reached world-class status. He compared him to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who he believes firmly belongs in that elite group of players.
Given Salah’s position as one of the best wide-attackers globally, alongside Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, a potential Ballon d’Or winner, McCoist’s assessment of Saka as not yet world-class seems understandable considering the limited competition among wingers today.
McCoist said on the debate: “I really like him, I think he’s a terrific player. I think Salah is world-class, I think Saka is international-class and he has the potential to become world-class.
“Do I like Saka? You better believe I do. He’s absolutely vital to Arsenal. There’s continued improvement in him, but I would be reserving the world-class tag just at the moment.”
Discussions about whether player X is considered world-class often arise from fans or pundits attempting to outscore rivals, with social media amplifying these debates, making them more tiresome to follow.
This is why everyone connected with Arsenal—players, fans, and staff alike—must be growing weary of the ongoing debate about whether Saka is world-class, especially since the answer seems so evident to those involved.
The England international has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers since cementing his place on the right wing, and over the past three seasons, Saka has consistently proven he is among the best in the world. At 23, he continues to improve under Arteta’s guidance.
